Hi Jon, finally got around to visiting your great website!! Excellent!! Often a motive for researching family trees is the hope of finding someone famous or even royal. Well I can put everyone's mind at rest and disclose that all Rayners have blue blood coursing through their veins (albeit French!). The name is a derivative of the French 'Renard' (which all school children know means Fox). Duc Renard (later Reynard... Reyner....Rayner) fought with great courage (what else?), and virtually won the Battle of Hastings single-handedly against the lumbering Brits. As a reward William, Duc of Normandie (later the king) gave Renard lands that covered the whole of what is now known as Wiltshire. From there his offspring spread far and wide to bring culture, prosperity and a certain 'je ne sais pas' to the countryside. There! Hope that's confirmed what Rayners everywhere have suspected for some time! ------------------------------ Hi, Glad you finally found you way here. Thx for the comments and interesting read! Funny enough since you mentioned courage, for the slogan I was going to put 'Courageous-wise-victorious' but went with 'Powerful' instead. I think I will change it to 'Courageous' |

Hi, my father (david) and grandfather (edwin) worked in textiles in Bradford from around the 70's. It is interesting to see that there are other Rayners in textiles in Bfd, just a coincidence??? ----------------------------- I don't recognise the names but you never know......jon |

Hello there came across your website whilst trying to work out why Rayner's Lane in London is so called. Nice site, didn't realise just how many of us there were or how widespread we are. Son of James William and grandson of Ian, who originates from Manchester. |
