Hi,

My name is Gavin Rayner and I am the volunteer Group Administrator for the Rainer (and surname variants) Y-DNA surname project. I was looking at your website and wondered if you know any male Rayners that might be tempted to take a Y-DNA at FamilyTreeDNA and join the project?

I'm not sure how much you may know about Y-DNA tests. There are lots of great resources on the FamilyTreeDNA website that explain Y-DNA better than I can but briefly: Y-DNA follows just the patrilineal line and stretches back in time indefinitely, there are 3 levels of test Y-37, Y-111 and Big Y-700. Y-DNA is a more advanced subject than autosomal DNA but please don't let this put you off, you don't have to know it all (I certainly don't). The Rainer project desperately needs more data, i.e. more Rayner males to test and join the project, even if the testers do end up not doing much with the results themselves.

I took on the volunteer group administrator role for the Rainer project at FamilyTreeDNA a couple of years ago. It's open to all variants of the surname, for example: Rayner, Raynor, Rainer, Ranner, Renner, Reyner, Reiner, Reiners, etc.. It'd be really great to get some more members in the project. If you know of any male Rayners that might be willing to participate in the project then please spread the word. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask. I look forward to hearing from you.

FamilyTreeDNA currently has a sale until the 19th of November 2023.

A great starting place to start looking for the Rayners from the Isle of Wight. I remember most of the family coming from Ventnor. I would very interested in hearing about them.
